Barbara Bowden Obituary

Barbara (Lynch) Bowden
May 15, 1935 ~ February 17, 2026
Barbara (Lynch) Bowden, 90, of East Haven, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026 at Whispering Pines. She was born May 15, 1935 in New Haven to William and Edith (Barnes) Lynch. Barbara is survived by her children; Peggy McLaughlin (Sean) of Branford, Stephen Bowden (Sue) of East Haven and Michael Bowden (Joyce) of East Haven along with nine grandchildren, Susan Allen (Jeff), Julie Demsky (Mike), Stacy Gutierrez (Ralph), Matthew Bowden (Melissa), Christina Madonna (Steven), twins - Brian and Ryan Bowden, Stephanie Bowden and Amanda Bowden and numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, James Lynch of Missouri and two nephews; Timothy Lynch (Lisa) and Christopher Lynch (Nancy) of New Jersey.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Frederick Bowden (2025), daughter, Susan Bowden (2020), and a brother, William Lynch.
Barbara was raised in West Haven, CT where she graduated from West Haven High School. She went to work after high school at the Southern New England Telephone Company, where she met her soon to be husband, Fred Bowden. They married in 1955.
She was the ultimate matriarch, whose happiest moments were spent in her home filled with the noise and laughter of her children and grandchildren. Whether she was hosting a Sunday family dinner or shopping at the mall with her grandchildren, her presence was a constant source of warmth and security. Barbara was always up for anything – from a last minute restaurant dinner to a night out at the casino to see her favorite comedian Kevin James. Her time was her greatest gift she gave to everyone.
The family would like to thank the wonderful, dedicated nurses, aides and staff at the Whispering Pines Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in East Haven, CT. They took wonderful care of Barbara over the last three years.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday February 24, 2026 from 9 – 10:30 a.m. in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Her funeral procession will then leave Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home for a 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at the Church of St. Vincent de Paul, 80 Taylor Ave., East Haven with burial to follow at East Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105-9959 in memory of Barbara Bowden.

Yesterday

I was sorry to hear of Barbara´s passing. She volunteered as a "Grandma Helper" in my Kindergarten class at D. C. Moore school. She was so good with the kids, always showing patience and kindness. She was always smiling, letting the kids know she was happy to be there to listen to them and lend a helping hand. Barbara was a wonderful person who will be missed by all who knew her. My deepest condolences to her family.
