Douglas Loren “Doug” Brown, age 66 of Manhattan, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Via Christi Village.
He was born on February 13, 1957, the son of Vernon Loren and Lina Belle (Owen) Brown. He graduated from Manhattan High School. Following high school, he played football for Coffeyville Community College and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Kansas State University.
Doug was a Captain of the 1974 Manhattan High Football State Championship team and earned All-State and All-Conference honors. At Coffeyville Community College, he was the starting linebacker for the 1975 National Junior College Championship team. He was also a standout wrestler and held school records in track and field. He was in the Boy scouts where he earned the status of Eagle Scout. Doug was also active in AA and served as a sponsor.
He is survived by his mother, Lina Brown of Manhattan; two sisters, Cheryl Brown of Manhattan and Arlette Nicholson and husband Barry of Howell, Michigan; one brother, Brian Brown and wife Karla of Greeley, Colorado, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 3, 2023 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home with Pastor Jay Bessmer officiating. Burial will be in the Riley Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Douglas Brown Memorial Fund to help cover funeral expenses. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
