Douglas Doyle Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jansen Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Feb. 27, 2026.
Douglas Doyle, a cherished family man and lover of the great outdoors, passed away peacefully on February 13,2026 in Flint, Michigan. Born on May 13,1957 in Saginaw, Michigan, Douglas's zest for life and his unwavering spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Douglas's early years were spent in the company of horses and the thrill of the race, as he assisted his family with their Standardbreds. This period of his life was a testament to his enduring affection for animals and his enjoyment of nature's splendor. As he grew older, Douglas found his calling as a semi-truck driver, a profession that perfectly married his love for travel and his dedication to hard work. Through his roles at Short Freight Lines and Tandem Freight, he explored the vastness of the country, always with a sense of adventure and freedom.

An avid fisherman and hunter, Douglas relished the tranquility and excitement that came with these pursuits. The serenity of a quiet lake or the anticipation of a hunt were sources of great pleasure and reflection for him. Yet, it was his role as a grandfather that Douglas held most dear. The moments spent with his grandchildren, Jeffrey Cunninghan and Zander Beardsley, were the ones he treasured above all. He took immense joy in sharing his passions with them, whether it was watching old movies with Zander or nurturing Jeffrey's musical talents.

Douglas's love extended to his entire family, he is survived by the children he raised and their mother, Karen Schott, Daughter, Misty (Anthony Putman) Smith, sons, Robert Smith, and Christopher Smith. He was a brother to Cindy (Tim Freese) Thornington, Carla Doyle, Tracey Doyle, and Teresa (Bobby) Hill. His warmth and guidance also touched his niece, Cyrena (James) Clark, and nephews, Ray (Wendy) Thornington, Daniel Thorington, and Caleb (Kristin) Hill.

Douglas Doyle's life was a testament to the values of family, hard work, and the simple joys of life. His legacy will continue to live on through the stories shared by his loved ones and the memories they hold dear. As we bid farewell to Douglas, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and the open road. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever roam the landscapes he so loved.
