Douglas Gillis Obituary
Douglas Gillis, age 82, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2024, in DeFuniak Spings, Florida. He was born in Glendale, Florida on April 1, 1942, to the late Woodrow and Ella Lou Sunday Gillis. Douglas is Baptist by faith. He spent most of his life as a mechanic, where he thoroughly loved working on vehicles. He was often found sitting on his front or back porch listening to the birds and squirrels. In his spare time, he loved watching Larry's Country Diner and any show that involved cars being rebuilt. In later years, he enjoyed fishing from time to time.
Douglas was preceded in death by his wife, Juatriene Gillis; parents, Woodrow and Ella Lou Gillis; and siblings, Frank Morrison, Charles W. Gillis, Virginia Burgess, and Ronald Lane Gillis.
He is survived by his son, Stephen Gillis (Jodie); daughter, Catrina Paul (Daniel); two grandchildren, Stephanie Johnson and Danielle Paul; siblings, Wendell Gillis and Adrian Gillis (Rachel); sister-in-law, Syrita Krummrich; and several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A time of visitation will be held Friday, April 5, 2024, in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 State Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433, from 5:00 p.m. until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Davis-Watkins Funeral Home beginning at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Dan Newton officiating. Committal services will follow at Cluster Springs Cemetery.Serving as pallbearers will be Larry Tankersley, Gary Morrison, Chad Gillis, Tony Sunday, Jeremy Krummrich and Greg Burgess.
Arrangements and services are under the direction of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home.
