Douglas J. Graves, Sr., 66, of Enfield, cherished husband of Elaine (Robinson) Graves, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at Hartford Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on October 9, 1958, in Bath, Maine, he was the son of the late Sidney Graves and Leona (Moeykens) Lane and her husband Edward Lane. Doug moved to Enfield as a young boy and called it home for the rest of his life.
Doug worked tirelessly throughout his life, beginning with Smyth Bus Company and later dedicating many years to Spazzarini Construction. Even after illness made it impossible for him to continue working, his resilience and love for life were evident in the way he cherished time with his family. A proud Patriots fan and avid bowler, Doug spent many happy years competing in leagues with his beloved wife Elaine, but nothing brought him more joy than the love of his grandchildren and great-grandson.
Doug's family was his greatest treasure. He was predeceased by his son, Douglas "D.J." Graves, Jr., his sisters, Carole LeClerc and her husband Bert and Donna Sayre and her husband Donald; and his brother-in-law, Don Novotney; and their memories remained close to his heart. In addition to his devoted wife of 45 years, Elaine, he leaves behind his children, Christopher Graves and Stacy Graves; his daughter-in-law, Kristyn; his eight grandchildren, Deion, Trinity and her husband Thomas Burns, Kyle, Camren, Mackenzie, Jordan, Riley, and Deagan; and his great-grandson, Thomas James Burns, who brought him boundless joy. Doug also leaves his six siblings, Arnold and Walter Graves and his wife Donna, Dana Lane, Barbara Novotney, Cynthia Andrews, and Sally Lane; Elaine's siblings, Patty and Ken Buchanan, Larry and Judy Robinson, and Kenny and Debbie Robinson; along with countless nieces, nephews, and friends who were touched by his kindness and humor.
Doug faced a six-year battle with illness with courage and grace, supported every step of the way by his loving wife Elaine. Her unwavering devotion was a testament to their deep bond and enduring love.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Sunday, December 15, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, to celebrate Doug's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes online condolences at www.leetestevens.com.
Doug will be remembered for his warm heart, his devotion to his family, and his ability to bring laughter and light to those around him. He will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
