Douglas Lichti Obituary
October 27, 1955 - February 7, 2026
Douglas Jon Lichti was born on October 27, 1955, in Hebron, NE, to Lawrence Lichti and Edna (Kempf) Lichti.
He passed away on February 7, 2026, in Kansas City, MO, at the age of 70.
Doug graduated from Shickley High School with the Class of 1973. He earned his undergraduate degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1976 and went on to attend medical school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1984.
Doug served as a general surgeon in North Platte, NE, for six years followed by 22 years as a partner at Utah Valley Surgical Associates in Provo, UT. Following his time in Provo, he continued his medical career as a trauma surgeon in emergency rooms in northern California and upstate New York, a chapter of his work he held with particular pride. Doug was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His meticulous skill, tireless dedication, and deep compassion for his patients was unsurpassed.
Doug married Gayle Brendel of Plattsmouth, NE, on September 15, 1979. Together, they shared 47 years of love and unwavering loyalty. Outside of medicine, Doug found joy on the water aboard his boat, hiking and biking, off-roading in Moab, playing pickleball, and building and flying remote-control airplanes.
He is survived by his wife, Gayle Lichti; his brother, Timothy (Judy) Lichti; his children, Kristin (Dave) Kaiser, Brandon (Michelle) Lichti, and Sara (Forrest) Schaeffer; and his five grandchildren.
VISITATION: Monday, February 16, 2026, at Heafey Hoffmann Dworak & Cutler Mortuaries, West Center Chapel from 6 until 8 p.m.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at West Center Chapel.
