Douglas Mamer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Twin Cities Cremation on Jun. 3, 2024.
Obituary of Douglas Anthony Mamer
Doug is survived by his beloved partner Gini (Auguston) Cornilla, daughter Carly Winslow (Jason and grandson Johnny), daughter Mikal Wulf (granddaughters Madison, Charlotte, Lindsey, and grandson Matthew) and son Coleman Mamer; brothers Mike Mamer and Brad Mamer and sister Lenore Adam.
Doug Mamer was born Jul 8th, 1957, in Denver, CO to Eugene and Barbara Mamer. The family moved to Mpls in 1960. The family consisted of 3 brothers all born a year apart with Doug being the youngest. 7 years after Doug a sister came along.
Doug attended Pillsbury Elementary School, NE Junior High School, the Blake School and graduated from the Breck School in 1975.
The 3 Mamer boys and sister grew up in NE Mpls, living on Lowry and Garfield. To keep 3 boys busy, their mom sent them to Windom Park to burn off energy by playing 4 square, tether ball, Indian baseball, and participating on various VFW 182 sports teams with all the neighborhood kids. Doug also managed Windom Park's female broomball team much to the envy of his brothers who played hockey.
Eugene and Barbara divorced in 1965 and Barbara married George Traficante, a music teacher. George upgraded the boys' perspective by forming them into a combo band called the Eye Catchers with Mike on bass fiddle, Brad on accordion and Doug on a long silver trumpet. George wrote the music for the boys to play. The band was accompanied by singers Gayle and Debbie Hunt. The Eye Catchers played at numerous Aquatennial events, multiple retirement homes, and local venues from 1967- 1970.
During the Breck years, Doug was on the football and wrestling teams. He also worked various jobs, finally landing at Key Electronics as a salesman. He would work there for a few years before branching out to buy his own store called East Lake TV. Doug would work at East Lake TV for the next 30 years.
Doug married Annie Connolly in 1979 and they had Carly in 1980. They eventually divorced and Doug married Marijo Waldera. They lived in Stillwater and had Mikal in 1992 and Coleman in 1994. The 3 kids spent their summers at the Mamer cabin on Balsam Lake tubing, fishing and walking to the 46 store.
As he grew older, Doug became interested in various religions and visited every Faith he could find. He read the Bible and Koran completely several times and could provide details about what was in each of them.
One of Doug's "hobbies" was to help disabled folks get to and from their medical appointments as well as joining them in their common rooms to play cribbage. He provided them with cleaning, companionship, an ear to listen and anything else they needed to make them feel wanted and not alone.
It's difficult to understand why God called him back so soon. His work on earth wasn't finished.
Service at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church Friday, July 19th visitation 10am service 11am with luncheon to follow, 2739 Stinson Blvd, Minneapolis, MN 55418.

I remember well the fun we had golfing way back in the `80s . It was me and cousin Billy Connolly. Or even delivering tv s in the middle Of winter. I always considered him family. "The joy of knowing him will always be greater than the sorrow of his being gone." Matt McLellan
