Douglas Maxwell Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 18, 2025.
Douglas Keith Maxwell, 66, of Winchester, VA passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, surrounded by his family at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center in Winchester, VA, after a decades-long battle with kidney disease.
Doug was born on June 18, 1959, in Staunton, VA. He was the son of Don and Ruth Maxwell. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Winchester. Doug was a graduate of James Wood High School and earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Averett University.
Over his career, Doug worked at the office of Arthur Parrish, CPA, at Western Union, and finally as a printing press operator for many years at Shenandoah Valley Press, formerly in Strasburg, VA. He always took great pride in providing for his family. He had a lifelong passion for the outdoors and was an accomplished hunter and fisherman. His favorite hobbies were spring gobbler hunting, fly fishing, and traditional bowhunting. Doug was most proud of his children and grandchildren, and he always endeavored to give them wisdom, advice, and especially love.
He is survived by his father, Don Maxwell of Paris, VA; his siblings Donna Maxwell, Danny Maxwell (Darlene), and Kimberley Maxwell; his son, Brandon Maxwell (Sarah) of Blacksburg, VA; and his daughter Brook McCoy (Jeff) of Bunker Hill, WV; as well as his former wife Deborah Maxwell, and his stepdaughter Amanda Cantrell (Kenny). He is also survived by five grandchildren: Grace, Hunter, and Amelia Maxwell; and Kirsten and Kohen Cantrell.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Maxwell, and grandson, Kolton Cantrell.
Per Doug's request, services will be held privately at What-A-View Ranch, one of Doug's favorite hunting spots.
The family would like to thank the Winchester Medical Center nursing staff and doctors, Dr. Nicolas Restrepo, the dialysis care team at DaVita, the Blue Ridge Hospice care team, and Kent Woodward of the Winchester Church of God Pastoral Care Team. Thank you also to all of Doug's family and friends who helped care for him throughout his prolonged illness.
