Obituary published on Legacy.com by Flanigan Funeral Home & Crematory on Jan. 2, 2026.
Douglas Peter Mock, 70, of Suwanee, Georgia, passed away at home on December 30, 2025.

Born on April 7, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois, Doug was the son of Howard and Dorothy Mock. He grew up in Clearwater, Florida, where his lifelong love of coastal living first took root. Having an adventurous spirit, Doug attended The Flint School on the Te Vega, a unique sailing-based high school program, and circumnavigated the globe while completing his secondary education. He later attended Thomas Aquinas University and went on to earn his degree from the University of Michigan.

An avid reader and keen observer of the world, Doug remained deeply engaged with current events and was known for his intelligence and breadth of knowledge.

A passionate culinary and wine enthusiast, Doug spent a decade as General Manager of a Wine Store in Largo, FL, where he became known for elevating the experience of his customers through both knowledge and skill. His extensive understanding of wine ultimately led him to entrepreneurship, and in 1988 he founded The Wine Adventure in Dunedin, Florida.

Doug faced an unexpected and life-altering challenge when he suffered a stroke at age 34. The years that followed were not easy. He lived with ongoing challenges that required uncommon perseverance, meeting each year with resilience and determination. Doug retained his spirit of independence and reinvention, becoming a Financial Manager through a self-taught path. His courage, adaptability, and strength stand as enduring testaments to his character.

Doug survived by his wife of 38 years, Barbara J. Mock (Pergolini); his sisters, Cynthia (John) Shuttleworth and Kathy (John) Klien; his niece, Jennifer (Colton) Oliphant; his grandnephews, Samuel and Sawyer Oliphant; and his nephew, Matthew Klien. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Helen Pergolini, and his brothers-in-law, Bill (Alice) Pergolini, Gary (Beth) Pergolini, Mark Pergolini, and Bob (Dorsey)Pergolini; and his 12 Pergolini nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Elizabeth Hoecker; and his father-in-law, William S. Pergolini.

Doug leaves behind a life defined by adventure and resilience. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished. A private celebration of his life will be held in the spring in his beloved Clearwater Beach.
