Douglas Olson, 78, of Rothschild, passed away unexpectedly at his home on December 26, 2022. Douglas was born February 24, 1944, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, son of Ralph and Verol (Hawkinson) Olson.
He graduated from Central High School in East Grand Forks, Minnesota in 1962, served in the United States Army as a medical specialist then returned home and married Marilyn (Rutherford) on December 30, 1966. He received a bachelor's degree in business management in 1970 from the University of North Dakota.
Doug had a long and successful career at Wausau Insurance Companies that spanned over 30 years. He was the Human Resources Manager for 20 years and retired as the Vice President of Office Services. He was a certified HR Manager, a former Elk and a member of the American Legion and veterans club. He also served on many church committees over the years.
Doug's hobbies were golfing (hitting a hole in 1 in 1996), fishing, playing cards, watching all sports, and wood working. Doug was a devoted husband, son, father, and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife Marilyn of 56 years; sons: Jeffrey (Sara Jo), Chad, and David (Amanda); granddaughters: Autumn (fiancé Brandon Baalman) and Ellie; grandsons: Zach and Charlie; and siblings RaeAnn Nelson, Russell (Becky) Olson, Verdell (Sandy) Olson, Yvonne Olson, and Lynn Olson. He was preceded in death by his son: Marc Olson; parents: Ralph and Verol Olson; and siblings Kendall, Gary, and Dale Olson.
A celebration of Doug’s life will be held on SATURDAY, JUNE 3, 2023, at Covenant Community Presbyterian Church, 1806 Weston Avenue, Schofield. Visitation will be from 9:30 am - 11:00 am with a service at 11:00 am and lunch to follow. Pastor Jess Wakefield will officiate.
