Douglas Gene Schenk, 72, of Prosser, Nebraska died on June 10, 2024 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, June 18th at 10:30AM at Faith Lutheran Church in Hastings with the Reverend Paul Dunbar officiating. Interment will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Lowell, Nebraska with Chaplain Zachary Brueningsen officiating. Visitation will be from 5PM-7PM on Monday, June 17th at Apfel Funeral Home in Hastings, Nebraska.

He was born on February 22, 1952 in Hastings, Nebraska to Marlin and Shirley Schenk (Pritchard). He grew up in Prosser and received his education at Prosser District 81, Kenesaw High School, Central Technical Community College, and the School of Hard Knocks. He entered the United States Army in 1972 and served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1975. He was united in marriage to Denise Pfeiffer on June 11, 1977 in Lowell, Nebraska. After which the couple lived in Prosser where he farmed and then was employed by Thermo King, Northwest Electric, and the Adams County Road Department.
He was a member of the Kenesaw Presbyterian Church, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Lowell, and was in the process of becoming a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hastings. He was a Charter Member of the Prosser Volunteer Fire Department, a Prosser District 81 School Board Member, a Prosser Town Board Member, and an inventor. He loved playing baseball in the Prosser baseball league, playing cards at card parties, woodworking, reloading ammunition, shooting guns, hunting, fishing, watching the Green Bay Packers, restoring tractors, participating in and attending tractor pulls/drives, gardening, and attending his grandchildren’s activities.
Survivors include: Spouse Denise Schenk (Pfeiffer) of Prosser; Sons Luke (Laura) Schenk of Hastings and Clayton (Christine) Schenk of Hastings; Daughters Shelby (Eldon) Rhodes of Juniata and Amanda (Ron) Denny of Kearney; Sister Cynthia Langenberg of Prosser; and Grandchildren Erikka Rhodes, Delaney Denny, Olivia Denny, Rowyn Schenk, Jax Schenk, Allison Denny, Abraham Schenk and Jace Schenk.
Preceded in death by: Parents Marlin and Shirley Schenk; Three Infant Brothers Clinton, Clayton and Mark Schenk; Parents-in-law Bryce and Ida Lou Pfeiffer; Brothers-in-law Randy Langenberg and Bryce Pfeiffer Jr.; and Great Nephew Alex Williams.
