Douglas Smith Obituary

Douglas M. Smith

Mar 8, 1942 - Jan 12, 2025

Mr. Douglas M. Smith, 82, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025. He was born in Yadkin County, on March 8, 1942, to T. Leak Smith and Elva Conrad Smith. Douglas graduated from Yadkinville High School. He retired from R.J. Reynolds after 36 years. Douglas built and raced go-karts for many years. He enjoyed drafting and working in his shop and was an excellent woodworker who could make anything. Douglas was an exceptionally devoted husband and son. He was extremely dedicated to his family and equally as committed to his wife, Linda's, family. He was incredibly supportive, always there to help in any way he could, but never wanted recognition for his acts of service because he had such a humble heart. Douglas will be deeply missed by all who had the special privilege to know him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Thomas Smith, Willie S. Hoots, and Clarence Odell Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Linda Reece Smith; a sister, Libby Johnson; sisters-in-law, Rose Brooks Smith and Rebecca Poindexter; brother-in-law, Morris (Lynn) Reece; numerous loving nieces, nephews, other special family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Enon Baptist Church with Pastor Ben Webb officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Smith will lie in state from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m on Wednesday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in East Bend. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Enon Baptist Church, 6321 Old US 421 Hwy E, East Bend, NC 27018. Gentry Family Funeral Service of East Bend is serving the Smith family. Linda & Family, I was saddened to learn of Doug´s passing recently. Linda, you have my deepest sympathy. I will never forget how you and Doug helped me when I removed everything from my mother´s house prior to selling it. I will remember you in my prayers.

Linda, I just saw this and am so sorry that your earthly journey with Douglas has come to an end. From what I could observe, you had a wonderful relationship and I know how empty the days will seem as you begin this new journey. My prayers are with you. Find joy in the good memories.
