Averil Vann Smith

Averil Vann Smith, born May 13, 1941, in Birmingham, Alabama, passed away at her home in Tallahassee, Florida on February 4, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer. She will be deeply missed.

Averil was a faithful member of the Immanuel Baptist Church, where she found strength in her faith and fellowship with her church family. She was devoted to her family and was known for her quiet strength, kindness, and love for those around her.

She is survived be her husband, Eric C Smith, Jr.; her daughter, Angelyn Gaddy (Walter); her son, Eric C. Smith, III (Erin); and her cherished grandchildren, Logan & Landon Gaddy, and Nathan & Erica Smith. Her brother, Robert G. Vann (Peggy); Sister in Law, Robyn Vann and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father, Aver W. Vann; her mother, Elizabeth H. Vann; and her brother, James E. Vann..

Visitation will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church on Monday, February 9, 2026 at 10:00 AM, with a Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 AM.

Averil will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, and her legacy of faith and family devotion will live on through those she leaves behind. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church's Building Fund or Courage through Cancer in memory of Averil Smith.
