Michael Langston Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bevis Funeral Home - Tallahassee on Feb. 5, 2026.
Michael Lovic Langston, 81, passed away peacefully at home on February 4, 2026, following a brief illness. He was born on October 5, 1944, and grew up in the Smith Creek community of Sopchoppy, Florida.

Michael began his career in public service and law enforcement in Miami, Florida, working with the Florida Highway Patrol from 1964 to 1965, and again from 1967 to 1968 following his military service. Michael proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967. While serving in Vietnam, he received numerous awards, including the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Combat Medal, and Expert Rifle Badge. Following his military service, Michael continued his lifelong commitment to public service when he returned home to Tallahassee and joined the Tallahassee Police Department. He began as a uniformed patrol officer in 1968 and rose through the ranks, retiring as a Lieutenant in 2001. He continued to serve as a Reserve Officer from 2001 until 2012.

A man of strong faith, Michael was a devoted member of East Hill Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. His commitment to his church, his family, and his community defined his life.

Michael is survived by his wife, Kelly Thompson Langston, and their children: Beth Parramore (Michael), Ellen Olsen (Ronnie), Kevin Langston (Krysti), Laura MacKinnon (Rodney), and Jamie Barber (Todd). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Hunter Faris, Georgia Parramore, Catherine Olsen, William Olsen, Sutton Langston, Elsie MacKinnon, Ruby MacKinnon, Margot MacKinnon, Archer MacKinnon, Clayton Barber, and Brannon Barber. He is survived by his sister, Gayle Harrell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Manley and Ruth Casseaux Langston; his sisters, Bernice Anderson, Malba Berg, and Beatrice Limbaugh; and his brothers, Warren Langston and Walt Langston.

A family visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. at East Hill Baptist Church, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m. at the Tallahassee National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to East Hill Baptist Church or Big Bend Hospice.

Working with Lt. Langston 30+ years ago was a great honor and privilege. Affectionately, yet respectfully known as Mikie, he never got in a hurry, was a man of few words and a dry sense of humor, but with his warm and caring heart he soon became one of my favorites. He made me smile.
