Douglas Smith Obituary

Visit the Hennessey Funeral Home & Crematory - Division Street website to view the full obituary.
Douglas Robert Smith was born to Robert "Bob" Smith and Murle (Bradley) Smith, June 15, 1950, in Spokane, Washington.

Doug was a hard worker and always had a job since age twelve when he started a paper route. Doug graduated from Lewis & Clark High School in 1968 and attended Spokane Community College in Radio Broadcasting. He loved music, played the trombone, and could whistle just about any tune. He worked at Westco Apparelmaster in sales management for many years and retired early focusing on things he loved: investing, traveling, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Doug met Barb, the love of his life, 57 years ago just before Valentine's Day. He was the dreamer and she was planner which made for a beautiful marriage of 55 years.

Doug was a fun-loving man. Family mattered most to him. He was a sensitive, loving, kind husband, dad, and grandpa who always had time to play with his family. He was a protector and a fighter for those he loved. He was a man of many talents- he could fix almost anything from an automobile to his grandson's sliver. His humor and his excitement for life always drew people to him. He enjoyed family gatherings and cooking. He would always stop and help those in need. He had a love for being outdoors and camped often. He especially loved working on outdoor projects at "the ranch" where he lived. Doug was playful and had a great sense of humor… always making jokes. One of the things he would often say is, "Cheer up, it's not that bad."

Doug was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Murle Smith, sister Sallie Moore, cousin Ray Bradley, and his best friend Barney Barnhart. In the summer of 2017, he trusted in Jesus as his Savior. Doug is survived by his beloved and devoted wife Barbara of almost 56 years, children David and Jolynn Smith, and Jeff and Alisa Price. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Zachary, Kendra, Hannah, Abigial, and Ezekiel.

A funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Hennessey Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division St, Spokane, WA 99207. He will then be laid to rest at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Please share your memories of Doug or leave condolences for his family on his tribute wall.
