Douglas "Doug" Sommer, 76, a resident of Miami, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Windridge Nursing and Rehab in Miami, Oklahoma. Doug was born in Waverly, Iowa, on January 13, 1949, to Leighton "Bud" and Norma (Judas) Sommer. Doug graduated high school in 1967. He would marry the love of his life, Ginger Slater, on July 20, 1968. Together they would spend many wonderful years together until her passing in 2012. Together they would have two daughters, Shawn and Shelly. The family moved from Iowa to Miami in 1975. Doug will always be remembered with a smile on his face and thinking of another prank to pull on someone. He always had a story to tell. He enjoyed his job working as a ranch hand on cattle farms. When he was not working, he competed in jackpot rodeos team roping. He owned and operated Crowbar Cattle Company, where he always used the logo "C- a little below average". Later in life he drove a semi-truck as an owner/operator. Doug is preceded in passing by his parents, Leighton and Norma Sommer, his brother, Garlan Sommer, and his wife, Ginger Sommer.
Those left to share the memory of Doug include his brother, Gary Sommer and wife Brenda, of Miami, Oklahoma, daughters, Shelly Sommer, of Joplin, Missouri, and Shawn Sommer and husband Jim Lynch of Jay, Oklahoma, grandchildren, Shane Sommer, Willy Turner, and Jackson Lynch, along with five great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Sommer will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Brown-Winters Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, Oklahoma. A memorial service will start at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Jarrod Kendal officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens in Miami, Oklahoma. Services have been placed in the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
