Douglas Robert Sturgeon (1961-2025)
Doug was known for his passionate interest in music and graphics. Douglas Robert Sturgeon, 64, of Nashville, Tennessee, died at his home of flu complications on February 2, 2025.
He was born in Sweetwater, Oklahoma, in 1961, to Bob and Geri Sturgeon. Geri fostered his love of music by playing ragtime on the piano with him, while Bob helped him through the difficulties of academia. He played basketball and ran track and was known for his creative art projects. He continued to enjoy creating throughout his life.
Doug went to barber college while still in high school and started a salon. He transitioned from a one-person salon to a much larger business. From there he changed professions and ran the graphics department at Vanderbilt School of Nursing, as well as numerous freelance jobs. The last decade or so of his life, he became a full-time caregiver for his parents, sacrificing much for them.
Doug enjoyed designing his own layout for his salon as well as business logos and advertising. He loved creating music videos, playing the piano and string bass, and was briefly in a bluegrass band with his brother Russ. Doug cared deeply for animals and nature, and he enjoyed watching the wildlife in the backyard as he cared for his parents.
Doug will always be remembered for his compassion. His brother Clay once saw him literally give someone the coat from his back. We couldn't have asked for a better brother and will miss Doug every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Geri Sturgeon; and is survived by his brothers, Russ (Nelda) Sturgeon, Paul (Melissa) Parris, and Clay (Amy) Sturgeon, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
A combined visitation honoring Doug as well as his parents, Bob and Geri Sturgeon, is on March 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Green Hills, followed by the combined memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Donations to The Contributor (thecontributor.org) would be greatly appreciated.

Doug was such a great person to know and work with. He was always eager to help and made the day go by so easily. Working with Doug was not like working at all, his attitude and sense of humor made everything and everyone around him better. He will be missed.

We didn't know you that well, Doug, but you were family and in our hearts. May God keep you and give you peace.

I always enjoyed working and fellowship with Doug. Among his other talents he was a skilled camera operator and we worked together on many athletic events at Lipscomb University. Doug will be missed.
