Douglas Torhan

Douglas Torhan, 78, passed away on February 19, 2025, in Worcester, MA. Born in Elizabeth, NJ on October 10, 1946, to Vincent and Jeannette Torhan. Douglas moved to NM to attend college and never looked back. He was drafted and served in the Army during the Vietnam War and returned home to dedicate many years to serving his community in NM.

He embarked on a career as a Systems Analyst with the State of New Mexico, where he worked from 1975 until his retirement in 2021. His professional life was marked by a meticulous attention to detail and a deep understanding of systems operations, and knowledge of COBOL.

Douglas was a graduate of New Mexico Tech, which laid the groundwork for his career in information technology. His passion for technology extended into his personal life as well; he was an avid enthusiast of science fiction and computers, always looking into the latest developments and gadgets.

Douglas also had a love for travel, learning Spanish and automobiles. He often combined these interests, embarking on road trips to Mexico and exploring new destinations. After retiring, he moved to MA to be with his children.

Douglas is survived by his children, April and Matthew Torhan; and extended family in NJ and NM. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Susan Torhan; and ex-wife, Helen Torran.

His burial will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 10 am on September 23rd, followed by a memorial gathering at 4:30 pm at Unity Church, 1212 Unity Way in Santa Fe, NM. Douglas's life will be celebrated among family and friends. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his uniqueness, and the lasting impressions he left on all who knew him.
