His love for his children and wife, Malissa Carole Van Zee, was boundless, and he was always willing to make sacrifices for their happiness. He leaves behind a legacy of treasured memories shared with his family, including special gatherings at Hidden Acres, memorable visits to Living History Farms, and a fun-filled reunion trip to North Carolina in 2009, where the whole family enjoyed time together in a pickup truck. A cherished vacation in Austin, Texas, remains close to the hearts of his children, who remember their cave hunting adventures as a highlight of their childhood. Douglas was a devout member of his community, actively volunteering with youth activities and church events, serving as a leader for both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He contributed his time and care to organizations such as the Salvation Army and Door of Faith. Camping trips every summer were a cherished tradition for the Van Zee family, and he could often be found enjoying evenings watching the Hallmark Channel, soap operas, or cheering on Da Bears and the Cubs. His musical preferences spanned from Christian music to 80's Rock & N Roll, with Boston being one of his favorites. He is survived by his loving wife, Malissa Carole Van Zee; children, Mary Katherine Van Zee, Caleb Aaron Van Zee, Ashley Susanna Van Zee, and Christopher Antonie Van Zee; and siblings, Carol Ann (Hector) Martinez and Bradley Allen (Laura) Van Zee, along with a host of extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
