Douglas Varner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bash-Nied-Jobe Funeral Home - Delmont on Apr. 25, 2025.
Douglas "Dougie" Varner, 48, of Delmont, passed on April 24, 2025. He was born on February 22, 1977 to Rebecca Kurtz in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He resided for a brief time at Allegheny Valley School-Merakey before returning home to be with his family. Dougie was well known as a happy guy. He would sing along to Christmas songs, and he loved listening to "Take Me Out to the Ball Game." His family can still hear him happily yelling, "Hey, hey, hey!" Doug was the first consumer of the Westmoreland Blind Association's program for the intellectually disabled, and he also participated in the Special Olympics. Swimming and bowling were always guaranteed to give him a smile.
He will be deeply missed by all who met him, including his mother Rebecca (Tom Rose), and his siblings Ryan and Autumn. Friends will be received Monday, April 28 from 3-7 PM at Bash-Nied-Jobe Funeral Home, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont (724-468-8381). Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 29 at 10 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, Irwin. Burial will be in the Twin Valley Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers family is requesting donations to the Westmoreland Blind Association, 911 South Main Street, Greensburg, PA 15601, https://wcbainpa.org/ways-to-give/ or Allegheny Valley School- Merakey, 1992 Ewings Mill Road, Coraopolis, PA 15108, https://avs.merakey.org/donate-now.html.
