I was a cop - he was a lawyer, truly an adversarial relationship in the court room! But he was a gentleman, a really nice and decent guy. He respected the law, and the process, and always did the best for his clients. And outside of the courtroom, and around town, we had many friendly conversations about so many things. My sincere condolences to his family and friends, I'm sorry for your loss. RIP Doug!

My husband and I have known Doug for many years. He was our lawyer and our friend. He always went over and above. He handled Pete's Uncle Joe's affairs also. Everyone I know thinks the world of Doug. He came to Pete's sister Antoinette's funeral which showed what a compassionate man he was. We haven't seen him for a long time but all memories of Doug show an honest, compassionate and caring man. Our sympathies go to his wife Joan and his two children. They are lucky to have had such a good man for a father and his wife Joan is just as kind and compassionate as he is. There should be more men like Doug. There is a special place in heaven for men like him. Pete & Kathy

I worked for Doug as a Legal Secretary for many years. We became more than boss and employee; we were friends. My job was working on real estate closings so when the real estate market slowed down I left, but I do miss those days very much. We used to go to lunch every Friday usually with our friend Kit Taylor who cleaned the office for us. Joan would come in to the office every Tuesday to work on the books, a job that I, thankfully, did not have to do.
Doug helped us when we made the big move to our house on Vernon Street. Joan helped as well when I was totally overwhelmed with boxes and just didn't know what to do next. She took charge of that and boy did things get done! Doug and Joan were a perfect match.
Doug helped both of my children when they bought their homes and was there for them when they needed help in other ways.
I especially look forward to seeing Abby and Danny again as I got so much news of them while they were growing up but now haven't seen them for many years.
My sincere sympathies go out to Joan, Abby, Dan and granddaughter Elise.
Doug will be missed by many people and I will always hold a special place in my heart for him.

Doug and I were best friends during junior high, high school and dorm mate and room mates at "The Tavern" in Amherst, Mass. I was privileged to serve as his best man. We thought we were the great philosophers in high school, but I learned a lot about questioning established ideas and values, and a lot about critical thinking from him. I regret we did not stay in close contact since the early 70's, but Doug probably had the greatest effect on me than any other friend from high school and college days. My deepest sympathy to his family. George "Ned" Freeland
