Obituary
Douglas W. Weigman passed away October 6, 2023, with family by his side, including Susan, his wife of nearly 58 years. They had two sons, Donald, and David, and one grandson, Damien. Doug was born and raised in Rahway, NJ, where he took his first job at Bauer's Sweet Shop at age nine and met Sue at age 16. Early on, Doug loved trains, baseball, music, and cars. Driving, however, became his passion, and then his profession. He first drove a truck for Wayne Steel, thanks to his wife's Uncle Billy, and then later, after moving to Bayville in 1974, he began driving for his brother, Herman, first behind the wheel of a dump truck, and later hauling boats over the road for Herman Weigman and Sons Marine Transport. He went on to own and operate three businesses, including Douglas W. Weigman Marine Transport, continuing to haul boats across the U.S. and Canada for another three decades and more than a million miles. For many years, Doug enjoyed playing, coaching, and watching baseball. He loved animals, especially his favorite dog, Dusty, who would never be replaced. He had a soft spot for kids, especially those facing hardships. He was a loyal supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. He was captivated by the music of Brian Wilson, and amazed by the accomplishments of the U.S. space program.
Doug was predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth and Herman Weigman, Sr., and all three of his siblings: Evelyn Weigman, Gertrude Kane, and Herman Weigman, Jr. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and grandson, as well as his sister-in-law, Marie Weigman, brother-in-law, Albert Croteau III, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
His body will be cremated, and ashes scattered where most of his driving trips began and ended. He wished for no service, so family and friends will celebrate his life later. Donations to St. Jude would be an appropriate remembrance.
