Mr. Doug Womack, age 81, of Dallas, Georgia passed away on Monday, November 17, 2025 at Wellstar Paulding Hospital.
Mr. Womack was born May 15, 1944 in Atlanta, Georgia to Mr. Lonnie J. Womack and Mrs. Katie Mae McMichen Womack.
Today we gather to honor and remember an extraordinary man-an 81-year-old husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was built on love, integrity, and a work ethic that could move mountains. As a boy, he spent countless hours at the sawmill with his father. Those early days-watching, learning, helping-shaped him for the rest of his life. That sawmill taught him the value of sweat, the pride in doing a job right, and the quiet satisfaction of earning your way. Those lessons stayed with him every day he lived.
As a young man, he chose to serve his country and joined the United States Air Force, completing his term with honor. Service, discipline, commitment-he lived those values long after he hung up the uniform. But the greatest chapter of his life began when he met and married the love of his life, Linda. Together they built a home filled with warmth and laughter, and they raised one son, Brent-his pride and joy. He loved Brent fiercely, and he worked hard every single day to provide, to guide, and to be an example of what a good man looks like.
He spent his career at Southern Bell, where he was known for his grit, reliability, and steady hands. But retirement didn't slow him down-not even a little. Instead, he did what he always did: he rolled up his sleeves and built something from nothing. He started a welding trailer business from scratch, working long nights after full days, often going from dawn until well past dark. The business turned into what is now Womack Truck Body- A legacy he has left for his son and grandson.
Hard work wasn't just a habit for him-it was part of his soul. If something needed doing, he did it. If something needed building, he built it. And he took pride in every weld, every project, every calloused hand. His work ethic was incredible, but his heart was even bigger.
He adored his grandchildren, Bryce and Chalony- He loved teaching them things-how to weld, how to drive, how to look up at the night sky and see more than just stars. He shared knowledge not from books, but from a lifetime of living, working, fixing, building, and loving. but he had a special soft spot for his great granddaughters Raelynn, Ember, and Katie. They brought him joy, laughter, and purpose.
Some of his happiest moments were the simple ones-sitting in church at Narroway, soaking in the music and message, and going to McDonald's, eating it on the way home with that quiet contentment he carried so naturally. He found joy in the everyday things. He found meaning in showing up, in doing the right thing, in caring for the people he loved.
He was loving. He was kind. He cared deeply about faith, family, and the value of honest work. He lived a life that mattered-not because of recognition or praise, but because of the way he shaped the people around him. Because of the lessons he taught. Because of the love he gave freely and fully.
Today, we feel the weight of his absence. But we also feel gratitude-gratitude for his life, his example, and his love. His hands built things that will last, but more importantly, his life built memories and values that will live on in all of us.
We honor him by working hard, loving deeply, standing tall, and looking up at the stars every now and then.
