Douglass Bruce Snover, a resident of Twining, Michigan, passed away on October 2nd, 2025. Born May 8th,1940 to Henry and Viola Snover, Doug was raised in Lake Orion, Michigan where he eventually met and married his wife Leota, raised a family and retired from General Motors' Orion Assembly Plant before moving to Twining.
Doug and Leota (Franks) married on January 5th, 1963. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary just before Leota passed in 2013.
Doug leaves behind a son and two daughters that continue to reside in Turner Township. Bruce (son) and Sheri Snover, Joyce (daughter) and Robert Taylor, Tina (daughter) and Chad Schumacher. He is also survived by his grandchildren Alec Schumacher, Payton Schumacher, Jonathan Kraus, Sam Valentine, David Sydow and Paul (Michelle) Sydow as well as two great-grandchildren Erika Sydow and Meghan Sydow.
Doug lived the first half of his life in Lake Orion. He worked in the Pontiac and Orion plants of General Motors and retired after 30 years. Upon retirement, he and Leota moved to Twining where they lived the remainder of their lives. Though, for several years they spent winters in Floral City, Florida.
Doug spent many years volunteering with Boy Scouts of America. He and his family were also members of the National Campers and Hikers Association (NCHA) traveling and camping throughout the Continental United States and Canada. Doug loved to travel and camp. He often did so with several friends, creating caravans of travel trailers zooming down the highway.
At any gathering or party, you could always find Doug at the card table. Doug loved playing card games such as Cribbage and Euchre or games such as dominos. He always enjoyed the companionship with that flair of competition thrown in. He especially enjoyed teaching the games to all his children and grandchildren and spending countless hours playing with them.
Doug never knew a stranger. He could talk to anyone. He spent the last several years enjoying the companionship of his fellow seniors at the Sunrise Senior Center in Omer. He looked forward to his daily lunches and occasional game days. Everyone knew Doug was coming just by his ever-changing fedora hats.
Doug's family welcomes everyone that knew and loved him to join them at his Final Farewell on Sunday, October 26th, 2025 from 2pm to 5pm for Food, Fellowship, and Fond Memories. The Final Farewell will be held at Edmunds' AuGres Inn located at 324 East Huron Road, AuGres, Michigan. Doug loved nothing more than enjoying good food (DESSERT) and talking with his family and friends.
Doug often quoted the Joe Diffie Song "Prop Me Up Beside the Jukebox If I Die" to illustrate his final wishes.
"I ain't afraid of dying, it's the thought of being dead. I wanna go on being me once my eulogy's been read….Prop me up beside the jukebox if I die. Lord, I wanna go to Heaven, but I don't wanna go tonight. Fill my boots up with sand, put a stiff drink in my hand, prop me up beside the jukebox if I die. Just let my headstone be a neon sign. Just let it burn in memory of all my good times….I'll be the life of the party even when I'm dead and gone. Prop me up beside the jukebox if I die."
So that's exactly what his Final Farwell will be. Wear a fancy fedora if you've got one and bid Doug a fond Final Farwell!
