Dougleaser "Dug Leaser, Sr." Cook of Woodbridge, VA lovingly known as "Deacon Cook" received his heavenly reward on March 1, 2022 and peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord.
The eldest of 10 children born to the late Sidney and Mary Cook, he grew up in Pittsylvania County Virginia and moved to the Washington, DC area in the early 1970's.
Deacon Cook was married to the late Blanche Lee "Shugg" Cook for 43 years. He was a faithful member at Mount Olive Baptist Church where he was ordained as Deacon in 1990. He loved the Lord and was an avid student of the Word of God. Whenever there was an opportunity to learn or discuss the Bible he was most excited.
He worked many years in the construction industry, and helped build the Washington Metro Authority rail system infrastructure. He also worked as a mechanic for Uhaul for over 25 years, from where he retired. He loved being outside working in his yard, planting and growing vegetables in his garden.
Deacon Cook leaves to cherish his memory his children Theresa James of Florida; Christopher Cook of Virginia; Antonio Cook (Sarah) of Texas; Sharon Jenkins of Virginia; Francis Jenkins of Virginia; Wyvetta Bowles (Jimmy) of Stafford; and Anissa Smith (Michael) of Virginia. He was blessed with 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by siblings: Elizabeth C. Irvine; Ezel Cook(Nell); Waddie Cook (Olethia); Calvin Cook; Raymond Cook (Julia); Charles Cook (Carol); Barbara Gregory; and Sister-in law Delma Cook and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to Blanche and his parents, Deacon Cook was preceded in death by his son Dug Leaser Cook, Jr. ; his sister Minnie C. Haley; his brother Edward Terry Cook; and 2 great-grandchildren Nyasia Murray and Joshua Cook.
