Doyle Marquardt, 74, of Van Meter, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at his home.
Doyle Zane Marquardt was born on December 24, 1950 to Walter Herman and Inez Dorothea (Nelson) Marquardt in Des Moines, Iowa. He attended school at De Soto and Adel, graduating with the Adel Class of 1969. Doyle played the trumpet in the school band and loved playing baseball, starting in Little League with the De Soto Braves and continuing all the way through high school. He was also in 4-H and showed cattle at the Madison County Fair, Iowa State Fair, and Ak-Sar-Ben Livestock Show. He then attended Iowa State University, graduating in 1973 with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science.
Doyle was a lifelong resident of Madison County and was a grain and cattle farmer. In his off time, he was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan, especially cheering on the football and basketball teams. He was a life member of the ISU Alumni Association. Baseball was his favorite sport. He was a loyal Cubs fan, which showed in his extensive baseball card collection. Doyle was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Van Meter, where he was baptized and confirmed. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved celebrating holidays and birthdays.
Doyle is survived by his brother, Darvin Marquardt of Ames; nephew, Ryan (Janice) Marquardt of Van Meter; niece, Amanda (Greg) Wever of Cambridge; nephew, Derick (Maria) Marquardt of Milton, VT; great nieces and nephews, Ada, Quinn, and Jett Wever, Hazel and Zane Marquardt; aunt, Vera Fletcher of Earlham; cousins, Phyllis Jones (Dan Lemon) of Winterset; Willis (Tammy) Jones of Van Meter; Alberta (Phil) Voge of Webster City; as well as many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Inez Marquardt and his sister-in-law, Janet Marquardt.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 31, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church near Van Meter. A visitation will be held prior, from 10-11 AM. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Doyle’s name may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or to the ISU Foundation and directed to ISU Alumni Association Gift Fund (0750812).
