Mr. Doyle Kent Pair, Sr. of Smiths Station, AL passed away Friday, October 10, 2025 at Legacy Reserve in Columbus, GA.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm EDT Monday, October 13, 2025 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City, AL. A private interment will follow. The family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 1:00 until 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
Mr. Pair was born November 28, 1932 in Decatur, GA son of the late Henry T. Pair, Sr. and Doris Turner Pair. He served his country in the United States Army. Mr. Pair owned and operated Richmond Tire & Auto for over 45 years, missing only 3 days of work through the years. As a young man he was very athletic and enjoyed playing football, baseball and golf. His High School baseball team, Bass High School won the 2A Georgia state championship in 1950. After High School, Mr. Pair played baseball for Auburn University and was one of the first individuals to be placed on a baseball scholarship. He was offered an opportunity to play professional baseball but duty called and he was drafted into the Army. In addition to his automotive business, he opened Lindsey Creek Driving Range, one of the first to be opened in the area. Mr. Pair’s other hobbies were golf, anything Auburn and being a private pilot. He was a long time member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Prince Pair; two sons, infant Joel Pair and Doyle Kent Pair, Jr.; a sister, Dale Spires and a brother, Henry T. Pair, Jr.
He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Pair Thorsen and husband James; a son, W. Michael “Mike” Pair and wife Slade; a daughter-in-law, Jane Pair; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Antioch Prince Methodist Church, P.O. Box 216, Fortson, GA 31808.
