He devoted 58 years of his life to the practice of family medicine, serving the people of Kaplan with compassion, humility, and unwavering dedication for 56 of those years. A faithful Catholic, husband, father, and grandfather he lived his vocation as a reflection of Christ’s healing love, serving others with kindness and grace. He was a zealous LSU Tigers fan and found great joy in cultivating his hibiscus and spending peaceful days fishing, especially alongside his dear friend, Wade Mouton. His life was a testament to faith, service, and love, and he now rests in the eternal peace of God’s embrace.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Victoria Bouillion Tate of Kaplan; his four sons, David Anthony Tate II (Lori) of Opelousas, Mark Elward Tate (Christy) of Suwannee, GA, Scott Michael Tate DVM (Beth) of Lafayette, and Andrew Baron Tate (Beth) of Kaplan; his two daughters, Natalie Angelle Tate (Mark Graham) of Pass Christian, MS and Renee Marie Tate (Larry Perruzza) of Hopewell, NJ; his two sisters, Catherine Tate Gidlow (Ken) of Lafayette and Susan Tate Williams of North Carolina; one brother, Steven Tate (Freida) of Mamou; sixteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elward Tate and the former Theresa Welch; and one son, Dr. Patrick Steven Tate.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Lamm Hospice and the three women who cared for him, Dorothy Viltz, April Kelly, and Charlene Guidry.
