Dominic D’Alesandro died Friday, August 29 th in Savannah, Georgia after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 79. Nic was born to loving parents Dominic and Sandra D’Alesandro in upstate New York, where he was raised in the Catholic faith and attended parochial schools there. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Syracuse University, Nic enlisted in the military, serving in the US Navy. Upon his honorable discharge he attended the University of Georgia on the GI bill and received his Doctorate in psychology. He felt the need to help people in distress and made his life’s work in the mental health industry, starting with counseling inmates at various prisons around the state. This eventually led Nic to his position at Georgia Regional Hospital here in Savannah, and for the next 20 years he served as Director of Forensics there.

Nic made his home on Tybee, as he loved being near the water, and the easygoing lifestyle known as being on Tybee Time, and he made his home an open and welcoming place for anyone needing a little dose of it. Many new and old friends would gather around his pool on Sunday afternoons.

He had a lifelong passion for sports cars, especially Corvettes and Deloreans. He enjoyed his membership in the Corvette Club where he made many good friends, took several memorable road trips, and won many car show awards for his prized anniversary edition Vette.

Nic also loved his Georgia Bulldogs, Donald Trump, and bantering with his good buddy Danny Ayala, who has predeceased him, but who we are certain is holding a place for Nic at the table. Most of all, Nic loved his family and he would do anything for them.

He is survived by his loving sister and brother in law, Judith and Robert Duemler, neice and nephews Eric, Chrissy, and Matt, all of Amsterdam New York, and his special friends Glenda Ganem and Cara McKee of Savannah, Georgia.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 4th from 4 o'clock until 5 o'clock in the afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah, Georgia 31405. Nic's funeral service will immediately follow at 5 o'clock in the funeral home chapel with Father Patrick O’Brien officiating. All of Nic’s friends and family are invited to attend. Burial will be in Amsterdam, New York.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in memoriam can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society of Chatham County.

Funeral services will be live streamed on Gamble Funeral Service’s YouTube Channel. https://www.youtube.com/@GambleFuneral
