Dr. Gregory L. Wehunt was born in Atlanta on February 3, 1949 to Grady and Jacqueline Wehunt and grew up in Powder Springs. After graduating from McEachern High School, he enrolled at Mercer University. He graduated with a pharmacy degree from Mercer in 1972 and worked as a pharmacist for 6 years. He owned Gregg's pharmacy in downtown Dallas. In 1977 an unfortunate plane crash occurred in the New Hope community and like many others Gregg went to provide assistance to the many crash victims. He was so moved by the moment wishing that he could have just done more to help that it inspired him to sell his pharmacy and commit himself and his family to pursue a career as a physician. He graduated with a Doctor of Osteopathy degree in 1982 from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed a rotating internship at Carson City Hospital in Carson City, Michigan which included surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, emergency medicine and general practice. He also studied neonatology at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids Michigan.

After short stints at practice in Carson City, Michigan and Louisa, Kentucky he decided to set up permanent practice back in Paulding County and served the medical needs of so many in the community until closing his private practice in 2009. He was affectionately called "Doc" by many family and friends for most of his life and loved the name. After retiring from private practice, he continued to serve as the medical doctor for the Paulding County Sheriffs Department until his death. He was very proud to serve the law enforcement community, inmates in need, and serve as the doctor for the SWAT team.

Doc was passionate about his hobbies and interests and excelled at all he tried. He competed in roller skating competitions as a young man and even competed on a Wide World of Sports event. He loved the Camaro drag car that he raced at the Southeastern drag strip for many years as "Pro Stock Doc". He loved playing a role in the Hardy Nascar Racing Team serving as the team doctor for the Winston Cup Team and even worked as the jackman on the Craftsman Truck series team. Doc was one of a kind and his connections and relationships to the community crossed gender, race, profession, economic status, religion, and will be dearly missed by so many family, friends, and patients.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Grady Eugene Wehunt and Jacqueline Carter Wehunt. Dr. Gregory Wehunt is survived by his three children, Philip Wehunt, Melody (Tom) Baxter, and Jordyn Howard; grandchildren, Madison Wehunt, Morgan Wehunt, Hart Wehunt, Grant Baxter, Brett Baxter, Michael Thomas, Keller Howard, Savannah Howard, Arsyn Howard; his sister, Brenda (Doug) Baxter; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
