Dr. Henry Wells Kasaini unexpectedly left this world on July 27, 2024 surrounded by family, in Burlington, Massachusetts after suffering cardiac arrest.
He was the beloved husband of Mable, father of Henrietta Wilson and her husband Steven, Jessica Ohlson and her husband Eric, Jerome, and Janice. Grandfather or “Papa” to Elijah and Elianna. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
Henry was born in Chingola, Zambia, on November 1st, 1962. As a child, he was known to have an inventor's mind - building a bike from scratch as an early teen. It is no surprise that he later graduated from the University of Zambia with a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering. Throughout his time at UNZA he was known for his fellowship and devoted love for God, frequently preaching to his fellow students and church congregation. In 1989, he married the love of his life, Mable. The two had met and grown up together in the church. They both developed a love for teaching the Word of God.
Thereafter, he pursued post graduate studies and eventually obtained a combined masters degree and PhD in Chemical Engineering at Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan. He later pursued a career in academia. In that time, he trained and supervised many engineers and post graduate students in Zambia, South Africa, Japan, France, Sweden, Germany and the United States - where he taught as a visiting professor at Northwestern University, The University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Colorado School of Mines and many other Universities.
He took great joy in teaching students during his time as a professor, later applying his knowledge and research to develop and validate new technology related to his field. He held multiple US patents, and founded and co-founded companies in Colorado and Massachusetts. In the last 8 years of his life, he worked alongside his children and taught them what he knew and discovered. He took great pride in his accomplishments in academia, private industry, and his personal life. Henry never failed to accredit God for his success. He never forgot his roots and often gave generously. He supported many ministries and communities both in the U.S and Zambia. His greatest wish was to leave a legacy to support his children and grandchildren, and to give them something to continue to build. Every decision he made was for the betterment of his family. He will be fondly remembered by his family and those closest to him for his devotion to God, perseverance, kindness, and deep love for his darling wife, children and grandchildren.
The family will be hosting a wake that will begin at 3:00 PM on Thursday, August 8th at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home in Centennial, CO. Friends and family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral at 9:00 AM at Horan & McConaty on Saturday, August 10th, followed by his burial at Fairmount Cemetery in Denver, CO.
