 Dr. James “Jim” Everett,72, passed away at home with family at his side after bravely battling pancreatic cancer for over 8 months. He entered the arms of his Heavenly Father on Monday, August 5, 2024. He was born on November 21, 1951, in Belzoni, MS to Rev. J.P. Everett and Willie Fraiser Everett. 

He surrendered to the Lord at age 16 to serve Him in ministry. A Southern Baptist, he was licensed and ordained into the Gospel Ministry. After graduating from Sumrall High School, he earned a BS degree in 1974 at Mississippi College. In 1981, he earned a Master of Religious Education degree at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He received his Doctorate in Ministry degree in 1985 from International Bible Institute and Seminary in Florida. 

He served churches in TN, LA, with most pastorates being in MS. One of his special ministries was to begin food pantries in churches to meet the needs of communities. He last served as pastor at Oak Forest Baptist Church in Jackson, MS. He retired and became a member at First Baptist Church in Florence, MS. He has also taught school, coached, served as Youth and Music minister, and as a chaplain. He served in many volunteer positions. He had a heart for missions. He traveled abroad for several mission trips, went on many mission trips to different areas in the states, and led in or joined in on mission projects locally.

He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Cynthia Anese Everett and a sister, Gayle E. Snowden.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Janet Jackson Everett of Florence; a son, Corey Everett (Pam); a daughter, Rachel Pinter (Josh) of Memphis, TN. He leaves behind 4 grandchildren, Whitney Pinter, Dylan Pinter, Sophia Pinter, and Sam Pinter; as well as 2 brothers, Mike Everett of Meridian, MS and Toby Everett (Janet) of Powell, TN. Along with those, he had many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. 

There will be a Visitation Friday, August 9th from 5pm until 7 pm at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. A brief Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 10th from 10am until the hour of service at 11am at First Baptist Church of Florence. Rev. Sam Taylor and Dr. Everett’s brothers, Mike and Toby will also be officiating. Burial will follow the Celebration of Life Service at Lakewood South Memorial Park on McClure Street in Jackson, MS.

 

In lieu of Flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to International Missions, North American Missions, or State Missions in c/o First Baptist Church of Florence. P O Box 97. Florence, MS 39073.
