James Conaway Haller, of Abilene, passed away in the early morning of October 26, 2025.
Visitation will be held from 6:00–8:00 p.m. Friday, October 31st, at Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 1st, at Oldham Lane Church of Christ, with Blake Dozier officiating. Burial will follow at Potosi Cemetery. Jim was born in Abilene to Carson and Clora Haller on June 10, 1934. He graduated from Abilene Christian High School in 1952, then earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry in 1956 and a Master’s degree in Chemistry in 1959 from Abilene Christian College. He went on to complete a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, as well as a specialty in Orthodontics, from the University of Texas Dental School.
He married Barbara Ann Black on August 20, 1960, at the Highway 36 Church of Christ in Abilene. Their 61 years together were filled with laughter, faith, and unwavering devotion as they raised their two sons, David and Robert.
Jim found joy in every moment spent with his sons—teaching them, encouraging them, and cheering them on from the sidelines. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and an active member of Oldham Lane Church of Christ.
Dr. Haller was a life member of the Texas Dental Association. For many years, he taught dentistry at the University of Texas Dental School in Houston, later becoming Director of Dental Services at the Big Spring State Hospital. Upon retiring, he pursued ranching and raised Angus cattle for more than 20 years.
He also devoted much of his life to mission work through Health Talents International, completing 51 medical trips to Guatemala. His steady hands and kind heart touched countless lives there, and he cherished the friendships he made among the people he served and served with.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Barbara Ann Haller, and his parents, Carson and Clora Haller.
He is survived by his sons, David Haller and wife Glenda of Skiatook, Oklahoma, and Robert Haller and wife Julie of Austin, Texas; and grandchildren Lydia, Jonathan, Cadence, and Logan.
Jim will be remembered for his deep faith, loving heart, and lifelong devotion to his family and community.
