Dr. John R. Coomer, 86, of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away on August 12, 2025. Born on July 5, 1939, in Danville, Kentucky, he was the beloved son of the late Charles and Celeste (Reed) Coomer.

In 1968, John married the love of his life, Kay Stephens. Together they shared a devoted partnership spanning nearly six decades and raised two daughters, Sarah and Martha, who were the pride and joy of his life.

John was a lifelong advocate for education and community. He graduated from Hanover College in 1961 and went on to earn his Doctorate in School Administration from Indiana University in 1970. Throughout his career, he served with distinction as Superintendent at Greencastle Community School Corporation, Tipton Community School Corporation, and Crawfordsville Community School Corporation. He concluded his impactful career with his retirement from Monroe County Community School Corporation.

John leaves behind to treasure his memory his wife, Kay Coomer; daughters, Sarah (Brad) Ziker and Martha (Bruce) Merrill; and two beloved grandchildren, Evan Ziker and Abigail Johnson.

Per John's wishes, there will be no visitation or services. A private family service will be conducted at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to G. H. Herrmann Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, Indiana.
