Jean Broadbent Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by G.H. Herrmann Funeral Homes - Greenwood on Feb. 10, 2026.
Jean Eleen Broadbent, age 86, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026.

She was born on February 5, 1940, in New York, New York, to the late Erritt and Florence (Twommi) Sinkko. In 1960, Jean married the love of her life, Gerald "Jerry" Thomas Broadbent, and together they celebrated 65 years of devoted marriage-a union grounded in enduring love, partnership, and shared service to others.

Jean lived a life rich in family, faith, and community. She was a talented and devoted craftswoman who found joy in quilting, knitting, sewing, and creating lasting gifts for those she loved. She enjoyed golfing with Jerry and cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren. She and Jerry were proud supporters at their grandchildren's sporting events, rarely missing a chance to cheer them on.

Her heart for service extended deeply into her community. Jean was a dedicated member of the Southside Hat Attitudes, part of the Red Hat Society, and an active participant in the Community Hospital Quilting Group. With courage and compassion, she served as a volunteer firefighter and EMT with Box 13. She and Jerry also volunteered with the local swimming club and at Community South Hospital, where their commitment to helping others left a lasting impact.

Jean leaves behind to treasure her memory: her beloved husband of 65 years, Gerald "Jerry" Thomas Broadbent; her children, Terry Broadbent and Connie (Martin) Garcia; her grandchildren, Arron Broadbent, Elise Broadbent, Cheryl Broadbent, Katie (Thad) Via, and Adam Sampson; numerous great-grandchildren; her sister, Joanne (Tom) Schmitz; as well as many nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her son, Timothy John Broadbent, and her sister, June Snyder.

Family and friends are invited to gather to honor her memory, share stories, and celebrate a life well lived from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026, at G. H. Herrmann Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, PO Box 676910, Dallas, Texas 75267-6910, in honor of Jean's courageous fight and tireless advocacy.

Jean's legacy is one of compassion, creativity, and enduring love. Her presence touched many, and her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her.
