Michael Broadbent Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ackley-Mills Funeral Home - Remsen on Feb. 10, 2026.
Michael R. Broadbent, 64, passed away on Sunday morning, February 8, 2026 surrounded by his loving family at Wynn Hospital in Utica after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born on November 24, 1961 in Rome, New York, a son of the late Mervin and Myra Fraser Broadbent. Michael grew up on the family farm and attended Holland Patent High School. After school he helped operate the farm before going to work at Steffen Publishing. Michael married Lori McDonald on May 24, 1986, the couple later separated, but remained good friends. He took some time off from Steffen's and managed a dairy farm for his brother-in-law. Michael returned to Steffen Publishing for many years after and then worked at the Canterbury Press in Rome and Brodock Press in Utica. Lastly, he was employed as a copy machine operator at Vicks Lithograph and Printing in New York Mills.

Michael enjoyed fishing, football, camping, playing cards, especially pitch and phase 10, horseshoes, traveling to Maine, the ocean, scratch offs, animals, and family picnics. He really loved his dogs. Michael was always very thoughtful and texted siblings on holidays and birthdays. He especially enjoyed Christmas time and could be found decorating every inch of his home, dragging his kids out in the cold to help him. Michael loved and appreciated his family, adoring all of his grandchildren. He especially appreciated his son, Dean, who he had spent a lot of time with and was supported by for the last few months, and Dean's partner, Desiree, who was always able to make him smile. Michael's children gave him great joy!

He was a member of the Floyd Horseshoe Club.

Michael is survived by Lori and their two children, Dean (Desiree Rienzo) Broadbent and Shauna Broadbent; Laura Ramsdale and his step-children, Amanda Ramsdale, Michael Ramsdale, and Kaylee Michik; 10 grandchildren, Connor Broadbent, Aiden and Addison White, Ryan, Aryanna, Lucas, Selena, and Jaden Ramsdale, Jamie McAllister, and Lilly Pratt; siblings, Allen Broadbent, Wesley (Linda) Broadbent, Carol Sherwood, Gail (Richard) Hoffman, Wende (Dick) Benson, Doreen Williams, Dora (Joe) Gay, Mervin Jr. (Sandy) Broadbent, and Louanne Harto; 23 nieces and nephews; and 22 great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Olivia White; two brothers, Hugh and Dean Broadbent; two sisters, Patrica Wells and Janet Broadbent; four brothers-in-law, Lynn Williams, Dain Wells, Dennis Harto, and Robert Sherwood; and two sisters-in-law, Joyce Broadbent and Eleanor Broadbent.

A celebration of life will be held at Redeeming Love Fellowship Church, 9011 NY-365, Stittville, N.Y., on Friday, February 13, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. with a gathering to follow the ceremony at the church. Burial will be held privately in the Spring in Townsend Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ackley-Mills Funeral Home of Remsen.
