REMSEN- Joan B. Thomas, 92, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at Wynn Hospital in Utica.

She was born on March 23, 1933 in Prospect, the daughter of the late Charles and Mildred Plopper Potter. Joan grew up on the Plank Road and graduated from Remsen High School. In 1956, she married Donald Coleman. He passed away in 1983. The couple owned and operated the Prospect Hotel and the Greenwood Court Restaurant for many years. Joan later married Richard Thomas.

She enjoyed going to the casino, playing bingo, going to softball games in Prospect when the bar sponsored a team, flowers, and family time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Joan especially enjoyed playing cards two nights a week.

She was a member of the Remsen Memorial Post #982 VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Joan is survived by two children, Denice Carr and Martin (Kimberly) Coleman; one daughter-in-law, Heather Coleman; six grandchildren, Laurie (Ryan) Corn, Elizabeth Mills, Tiffany Carr (Ajas), Travis (Brittany) Coleman, Adam (Meagan) Coleman, and Haylee (Will) Zahorodny; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband in 1983, Donald Coleman; one son, Dennis Coleman; one great-grandson, Dante; her second husband, Richard Thomas in 2011; and one brother and his wife, William and Elizabeth Potter.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the medical staff at Wynn Hospital for the kind and compassionate care that Joan received during her stay. They would also like to thank Cheryl Phillips, Butch and Irma Gilbert, Anne McGahey, and Michele Plourde for all they did for Joan through the years.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Remsen Memorial Post VFW. Arrangements are in the care of Ackley-Mills Funeral Home, Remsen.Contributions in Joan's name may be made to the Remsen Memorial Post #982 VFW, 10526 Steuben Street, Remsen, NY 13438.
