John William Greene

John William Greene, 89, passed away on Feb. 3, 2026 at Greenwood Meadows in Greenwood, Indiana. Born February 18, 1936 in Washington, D.C., he a 1954 graduate of Hagerstown High School in Hagerstown, Maryland. John was an United States Air Force veteran, serving eight full years. He worked for many years as an Independent Insurance Representative, a role that suited his independence, dedication, and commitment to helping others. Outside of work, he was a natural storyteller who loved sharing memories and "war stories" from his life, often captivating anyone lucky enough to listen. He kept a close eye on political and financial news, enjoying thoughtful discussion and staying engaged with the world around him. His gift for conversation will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

He is loved and missed by his loving wife of 67 years, Pat; children, Margaret Barkocy ( Andy); Darren Greene (Jill); six beloved grandchildren, Kate (Dave) Kurzawski, Andrew (Hollie) Barkocy, Ashley (Ryan) Woods, Kim (Brad) Smith, Austin (Hannah) Greene, Alec (Jenny) Greene; 12 great grandchildren.

He was preceded death by brother, William O. Greene

Visitation will be Monday, February 9th, from 1-2:00 PM at G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home at The Gardens of Olive Branch, 1605 S. State Road 135, followed by the funeral at 2:00 PM.
