Dr. John Judson Haney, Jr., was fondly called “JJ” by his family, relatives, friends and peers. He was born in Ironton, OH on October 14, 1946. He was the eldest son of six children of the late Dr. John Judson Haney, Sr., and Lena Theresa Haney (Natalina Teresa Mazie). He was preceded in death by his Sicilian mother and Irish father, two brothers, Christopher Haney and Thomas Haney in Ironton, OH. He is survived by siblings Louis Haney of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Concetta Havlin of Gardner, MA, and David E. Haney of Pedro, OH, children Caleb Haney, Alison Marie Haney, Nathan Haney and Meghan Haney, wife Reynilda Haney, stepsons Froilan Royce and Leigh Heinrich; and two grandchildren John "Gio" Barber and Araceli Heron.

He became an altar boy in grade school and would continue to be a devout Catholic for the rest of his life. He graduated from St. Joseph Central Catholic High School in Ironton, OH. JJ was known for his exceptional athleticism in his youth. He invented the little known sport of Ice Blocking enjoyed on hot summer days in Ironton. He also played football in his younger years and played golf later in his life. He will always be remembered for his unwavering faith throughout his entire life.

He attended Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH for his undergraduate studies and continued his education at the University of Louisville in Kentucky to earn a degree in Doctor of Dental Medicine in 1972. Following dental school, JJ joined the US Army Dental Corps and was stationed at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC where he served as a dentist and oral surgeon. There, he married and had four children. He practiced dentistry in Texas, Ohio, and South Carolina for 37 years.

In 2009, he made his first missionary trip to the Philippines and met Rev. Fr. Dave Villaceran who then became his spiritual director. At one point, he also became involved in the mission of the Daughters of St. Camillus Vocation Cebu Ph. During his missionary work and trips to the Philippines, he met his second wife Reynilda Timagos, and they were married at the Archbishop’s Palace of Cebu City, Philippines. The addition of Reynilda and her sons, Froilan and Leigh, greatly enriched the remainder of JJ’s years on earth. Their love and devotion has been a gift to the Haney family

Our dearest father, brother, husband, and friend, you may be gone, but your memory will always be cherished.

God saw you getting tired, a cure was not to be,

So He put his arms around you and whispered, “Come with me.”

With tearful eyes we watched you fade away,

Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating, your tender hands at rest.

God took you home to prove, he only takes the best.

Rest easy JJ, there is no more pain.

May JJ and all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.
