As I write this obituary, I realize how much I need Kim in this very moment — to help me find the right words, to create something of literal marvel as he always did. These last two days, since he left so suddenly, it has been almost impossible for me — for all of us — to grasp the shift from being to no more. I keep working on this document, half-expecting to turn my head and see him watching, ready with his quiet smile and a few thoughtful remarks.

But today, I would like us to celebrate Kim’s life — the life of a courageous man who, despite every adversity he faced from birth through childhood and beyond, lived victoriously yet humbly. Even when his body endured risky procedures, his mind and spirit remained strong, healthy, and full of grace:

"Purpose to live. Yes, it is difficult... it is painful. I have been confronted by death many times in my life.  I made the purposeful decision consciously/unconsciously to live."

Accepted to Caltech purely on merit — without any family background in science — and later earning his PhD in Applied Physics from Stanford, Kim built a remarkable professional career, including Chief Scientist at Siemens. He published numerous papers and patents that are recognized around the world. His ideas, discoveries, and applications remain foundational — the kind of work that becomes textbook knowledge for generations to come.

Kim was a man of light — both literally and figuratively. His warmth and kindness, paired with his solar panels, brought energy and enlightenment to everyone who met him. He stood firmly for what was right, never hesitating to take a stand when one was needed.

I was deeply fortunate to share a short 27 years with Kim — years filled with love, laughter, care, wonderful friends, and unforgettable adventures. The time and trips he shared with his son, Jason, were among his life’s brightest joys.

I hope that wherever he is now, Kim continues to explore, to learn, to invent — just as he always did. I believe we will meet again and recognize each other once more. That thought helps me cross today’s line of pain.
