Dr. Lloyd McCarthy, age 98, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 8, 2024.

Lloyd was born in Madelia, MN, on Christmas Day 1925 and lived and worked on the family farm as a young man. After serving in the U.S. Navy in WWII, he graduated Carleton College in 1950, where he met the love of his life Mary, and then completed University of Rochester medical school in 1954. He was a beloved and highly skilled general practice doctor for thirty-five years in downtown Barrington. While in practice, he served a term as president of the medical staff of Sherman Hospital. Throughout his life with Mary, they were active with local conservation organizations, bird watching, traveling to over 100 counties, and nature/travel photography - both becoming honorary lifetime members of the PSA and winning numerous awards.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary (Svoboda) McCarthy; his parents, Charles and Merle; three brothers, Willard, Harold, the Rev. Richard McCarthy, and his sister Kathleen Petersen Anderson. He is survived by many loving nieces and nephews and their spouses, as well as lots of grateful patients he helped throughout his career.
