Dr. Nancy Burch Moody, age 73, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 26, 2024. Nancy Lou Burch was born on December 13, 1951, to the late Mr. William “Bill” Burch and Mrs. Mildred Brown Burch. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Moody, and her brothers, Sammy Burch and Billy Burch.

A native of Middlesboro, KY, Dr. Moody began her academic journey at Middlesboro High School before pursuing her passion for nursing and education. As a first-generation college graduate, Nancy earned multiple degrees in nursing, which included an Associate Degree and Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Eastern Kentucky University, a Master of Science Degree in Nursing from Texas Women’s University, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her background in nursing along with her love for education led to a career grounded in both.

Her distinguished career included roles as a professor of nursing at Lincoln Memorial University, East Tennessee State University, and University of Tennessee-Knoxville and as the first female president at both Lincoln Memorial University (2002-2009) and Tusculum University (2009-2017), which she considered the pinnacles of her career. She was a dedicated advocate for education and healthcare and developed meaningful relationships with a multitude of people throughout her illustrious career.

In addition to helping others become the best version of themselves through education, Dr. Moody thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling with her daughter, Mykel. She valued giving back to the communities that supported her along her journey. She also enjoyed the outdoors and could be found on the lake, on the golf course, and attending sporting events.

Surviving family members include her children, Adam Moody of Knoxville, TN, Mykel Johnson and wife Mary of Bristol, TN, and nephew John Burch of Fredericksburg, VA.

The family of Dr. Nancy Moody will receive friends on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Cawood Funeral Home Chapel, Middlesboro, KY. Funeral services will immediately follow with Father Prashanth Lobo, Celebrant.
