Drake Harkness Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lemley Chapel on Feb. 26, 2025.
Drake Victor Harkness, age 68, of Van Zandt, Washington, passed away unexpectedly at home on February 12, 2025.
Drake was born on September 13, 1956, in Bellingham, Washington, to John and Nadine Harkness. He married Shannon (Irons) Harkness on February 3, 1990. They were blessed with two sons.
If you knew Drake, you KNEW Drake. He was the same loving and kind person to everyone he came in contact with. He loved God, his family and his friends. His work ethic was like no other and he was truly an artist with an excavator. He thoroughly enjoyed any opportunity to go skiing or head out on a fishing trip with family. Grandson, Henry, always knew Papa had a PBJ and apples packed for him in his lunch box. And, granddaughter, Charlotte ("Charlie-girl" as Papa Drake would call her), was always ready for a hug.
Drake is survived by his wife, Shannon (Irons) Harkness; sons, Doug (Kaeli) Harkness, Shane (Callie) Harkness; grandchildren, Henry and Charlotte; brother, Dane (Linda) Harkness; sister, Debi (Brian) Depoppe; brother, David (Jodi) Harkness; nieces and nephews, Kelley (Darren) Peck, Rebecca Bell, John Harkness, Sarah (Ryan) Bolton, Nathan (Bethany) Harkness, great-nieces and great-nephews, and many special cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Nadine Harkness; his brother, Dan Harkness.
A Graveside service will be at Saxon cemetery on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 2:00pm followed by a Memorial Service at the River of Life Community Church, 4037 Valley Hwy, Deming, WA on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 3:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Deming Logging Show. Share your memories of Drake and sign the online guest register.

We will miss Drake and his smiling face as he plowed the snow in front of our home. He was a good neighbor and friend. He voluntarily would plow the roads around the neighborhood. He said he did it so emergency vehicles could access people's homes. That was one way he showed his neighbors that he cared. Love and hugs to Shannon and their family.
