Drexell Wadene Bergstrom

Drexell Wadene Bergstrom, 79, of Bethany, Oklahoma, died in Fayetteville, Georgia on November 27, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.
She was born February 1, 1945, in Wellington, Kansas, to Wendell and Vivian Gassett. Drexell grew up on the farm with her two younger siblings, Danny Gassett and Joy Gassett Brown. Drexell's mother was a piano teacher in their rural community, so Drexell naturally learned how to play the piano at a young age. Her love for the piano was a large part of her life, teaching her grandkids, playing at parties, and entertaining her family every time the family was together, with everyone gathered around singing along.
Drexell contracted polio as a child, and though this brought challenges, this never stopped her from living life to the full. She graduated from Bethany Nazarene College (now Southern Nazarene University) with an English degree. She went on to obtain her Master's degree and taught English at a collegiate level.
Drexell married Dennis Bergstrom in December of 1968, and their first married years were spent in Longmont, Colorado. Together they had three sons, Blake, Barry, and Brett. Dennis and Drexell raised their sons in Bethany, Oklahoma to live close to family. After teaching for many years, Drexell enjoyed a second career as a real estate agent. She and Dennis were heavily involved at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene and they lived an incredible life, getting to serve the Lord wherever they were needed. They were blessed to have had the opportunity to participate in several Work and Witness trips all around the world!
One of Drexell's greatest "jobs" that she took the most pride in was being Nana to her ten grandchildren, and her three great-grandchildren. Her "Nana dates" were always a priority and something her grandchildren will always cherish.
Drexell was preceded in death by her parents, Wendell and Vivian Gassett; her sister and best friend, Joy Brown; and her husband of 53 years, Dennis Bergstrom.
She is survived by her three sons, Blake and his wife, Ally, Barry and his wife, Missy, and Brett Cody. She is also survived by her brother, Danny Gassett; and her ten grandchildren, which include Blake's children, Madison, Moriah, Montana, and Mercy; and Barry's children, Alecsandra, Brooklyn, Jillian, Maverick, Lucas and Grace; as well as her three great-grandchildren, Ellie, Mable and Eden.
A celebration of Drexell's life will take place on Friday, December 6, 10:00am, at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, 6789 NW 39th Expressway, Bethany, OK. The service will be livestreamed and may be viewed on this obituary page.
