Duane Fred Bormann, age 80, passed away at home surrounded by love on September 11th, 2025. An interment of ashes service will be planned for immediate family at a future date.
Duane grew up on the family's farm in Canistota and was dedicated to our Lord Jesus Christ at the Zion Lutheran Church in Canistota, SD, on April 27th,1958. Duane Bormann graduated from Canistota Public High School on May 25th, 1962. He Married Shirley Ann Schmidt on June 22, 1966. Together they lived in the Sioux Falls, South Dakota area, and had a son, Timothy Duane Bormann.
Duane was a master carpenter, and a very hard worker. He started a successful home building business, Bormann Construction. He built many custom homes throughout the Sioux Falls area for over 30 years. Duane paid great attention to every detail in all he accomplished. Duane served in the South Dakota Air National Guard for 23 years.
Duane enjoyed fishing, camping, riding his Harley Davidson Road King motorcycle, and working in his yard. Once he retired, he enjoyed spending many hours restoring his tractors at the family farm. Duane was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His wife, Shirley, son, Tim and daughter-in-law, Gail had the privilege of providing care for him during these last two years as he struggled with Lewy Body Dementia. He is with Jesus now, and will be missed, but is no longer suffering from this disease.
Duane is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Bormann, his son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Gail Bormann, his sisters, Fountell (Bormann) Johnson, Crystal Bormann, and Gloria Bormann and grandchildren; Carson Bormann and Madelyn Bormann.
Duane was preceded by his parents, Fred and Louise Bormann.
