Duane Boyd Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 15, 2026.
Duane Joseph "Joe" Boyd passed away at home on January 9, 2026, in Rosemount, Minnesota. Born on June 15, 1939, in Rochester, Minnesota, Joe lived a full and meaningful life. He had a personal relationship with Jesus, great love for family, and an appreciation for the outdoors.

Joe was the only son of Catherine and Clare Boyd, both of whom preceded him in death. He graduated from Sibley High School before earning his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota. He proudly served as a Life Guard and Radio Operator in the United States Marine Corps.

A man of many talents and passions, Joe was known for his athleticism and his deep connection with nature. Whether hiking through wooded trails or simply enjoying time outside in his makeshift fort with his beloved dogs, he found peace in the natural world. Those who knew him often referred to him as a "dog whisperer," a testament to his gentle spirit and intuitive bond with animals.

Joe's professional life included time spent as a teacher-a role that suited his patience and his ability to connect with youth. He had a gift for mentoring and leading others, through his work at Tree Trust and CYC Camp canoe trips to the Boundary Waters.

Joe dedicated years to Bible study, reflecting his enduring faith and love for Jesus. His spiritual journey was an important part of his life and brought him great comfort and strength.

Joe loved his family and spending quality time together. He is lovingly remembered by his children: John (Libby) Boyd, Beth (Mike) Sullivan, Amy (Reef) Johnson, Katie (Mike) Sheehan, and Jesse (David) Schmitz-Boyd. His lifelong friend and former wife,Joan Boyd remained a constant presence in his life. Joe's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Leah Boyd; Mikaela (Nathan) Olson; Brenna Sullivan (Noah); Sean Sullivan; Emma Marthaler; Charlie (Maddy) Marthaler; Ryan Sheehan; Allie Sheehan; and Will Sheehan. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Quinn and Liam Olson. Joe will also be missed by extended family and many close friends.

Joe's life was one of quiet strength, unwavering faith, and heartfelt connections-with people, animals, and the world around him. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire lives rooted in kindness, courage, and love. A Celebration of Life will be held on January 25, 2026 at 4:00 with the visitation beginning at 2:00. It will be held at Woodcrest Church 525 Cliff Road, Eagan 55123. There will be refreshments following the service.
