Born 1934 in Decatur, Illinois, son of Grace Wilkins Cserep and his adoptive stepfather John Cserep, Duane worked as a young man in a lawnmower factory before serving in the US Air Force following the Korean War. He served in Wisconsin at the Antigo Air Force Station radar site, and after being honorably discharged went to work for United Airlines. There he met his future wife, Marie Karras. After they married in 1960, Duane became a civil servant and worked as a computer programmer at the US Armed Forces Institute in Madison, Wisconsin, which served as administrative and logistical hub for military educational course materials and testing. Later, after moving his family to Florida, he served the Navy's education and training organizations at Naval Air Station Pensacola and Saufley Field until his retirement. He was an avid fisherman and gardener and also hunted and enjoyed nature walks, bird watching, classical music and opera. He filled his family's home with books about history, nature and all kinds of learning. He is preceded in death by daughter Patricia Ann (1970-1991) and is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Marie, and their sons Ted (Helen) Cserep, John Cserep and Rick Cserep.

4 Grandchildren Vanessa, Caroline, Vivian and Harper as well as 3 great-grandchildren and sisters Barbara Cserep, Judith Turnwall and his niece, Jill Medina.
