Duane Lawrence Mogck went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 25, 2024, at the age of 90. Visitation will be held 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Friday, November 29 at Scotland Community Church. Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 30 at Scotland Community Church. Interment will be at Rosehill Cemetery, Scotland.
Duane was born on November 17, 1934, to G. Adolph and Lillian (Schlechter) Mogck on the family farm near Olivet, SD. Duane was baptized and confirmed in the Congregational faith in rural churches near Kaylor and Parkston, SD. He graduated from Tripp High School in 1952 and attended SDSU in Brookings, SD, where he ran track and studied agriculture. Duane left college early to return home and begin farming.
On June 9, 1957, Duane was united in marriage to Leona J. Walter. They spent a lifetime farming together near Olivet, SD. After retiring in 1989, they moved to Scotland, SD. Duane and Leona were members of the Scotland Community Church. Duane’s love was farming and raising Angus cattle. He enjoyed traveling to different Angus sales, delivering bulls and spending time visiting with his customers. He was a member of the SD Angus Association, the American Angus Association, Rotary Club, a founding member of the Kaylor 4-H Club and actively involved with many church boards and committees, as well as community and business projects.
As a father and grandfather, he loved being involved with his sons and grandchildren, whether it was working with them on the farm or cheering them on at all their school and sports events and then blessed to get to do it all over again with some of his great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons, Dean (Patty) Mogck and Charles (LeAndra) Mogck; seven grandchildren, Nicole (Dan) Bowen, Kyle (Christy) Mogck, Dalton (Marissa) Mogck, Hannah Mogck (Nolan Welker), Christina (Logan) Winckler, Chase Mogck (Kayla Neugebauer) and Ty Mogck (Hilary Albrecht); eight great-grandchildren, Rowdy, McCoy, Nash, Tynlee, Wyatt, Willow, Hayes and Maggie; sister-in-law, Norma Mogck; brothers-in-law, Carney (Betty) Walter and Ervin Ortmann; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Leona in 2016; brother, Oliver Mogck and twin sister, Darlene Pearson.
