Alton Duane Mullins, 77 of Cleveland, TN, surrounded by family, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 12th, 2024.
Duane was born in Lenoir, North Carolina. He attended Bel Air High School where he met his wife, Julia, but took up masonry at an early age. He continued in masonry until he became a general contractor and home builder. During this time, he was also called into ministry and ultimately started and built the Rising Sun Church of God of Prophecy in Rising Sun, MD where he served as pastor until retirement. Duane and Julia retired to Cleveland, TN and attended Peerless Road Church. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, cousin, friend and confidant. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing the guitar, singing, “resting his eyes” in his chair, calling his children daily, and socializing with his friends, congregation and just about anyone he would meet. During his middle ages, he obtained a pilot’s license and enjoyed flying his small 4 passenger plane. He had also recently taken up shooting and collecting guns as a hobby. Duane was a confidant and trusted advisor to many beyond just his family. Through the years he ministered to and befriended many people, some of whom continued to call him daily. He never made anyone feel like they were a bother and always took time to listen and pray for and with them. He sat in his room and prayed for everyone by name every night. Duane (Dad and Poppop), with his enormous heart and funny sayings, was a one of kind man. The world was truly better for having him in it and he is dearly loved and terribly missed.
Duane was preceded in death by his wife: Julia Anne Kurek Mullins; parents, David and Lena Mullins; brother: Clifford Mullins; and sister: Anita Mullins.
Survivors include his children: Paula (Michael) Holloway, Adam (Andrea) Mullins, Mary (Randy) Boggs, and Jessica (Zachary) Camburn; grandchildren: Joshua (Robin) Holloway, Matthew (Courtney) Holloway, Rachel (Tyler) Clayton, Ryan Boggs, Anthony Mullins, Abel Mullins, Hailey Camburn, Huxton Camburn and Finnick Camburn; great grandchildren: Jakson, Jakob, Josiah, Benjamin, Elijah, Luke, and Henry Holloway and Remi Clayton; brothers: Arnold (Rosie) Mullins, Ronald (Bonnie) Mullins, Jerry Mullins, David (Barbara) Mullins and James (Cathy) Mullins; sister-in-law: Julie Mullins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 16th, 2024, from 10am until the funeral hour at 12pm in the Poole Funeral Home with Bishop Adam Jones officiating. A private family interment will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in Duane’s honor to the building fund of his grandson’s church, Freedom Life Church in Winchester, IN that was completely leveled during a tornado in March 2024. https://flcwinchester.churchcenter.com/giving
