Duane Arthur Olson, age 69 of rural New Ulm-Nicollet County died unexpectedly on Monday, February 6, 2023, at his home in rural New Ulm.
Funeral service will take place at 11 am on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at the Swan Lake Lutheran Church in rural Nicollet. Pastor Bob Stover will officiate, and burial will follow in the Swan Lake Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Friday, February 10th at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-North Chapel in New Ulm. The visitation will continue from 10-11 am on Saturday at the church in Swan Lake.

Duane is survived by his daughter, Holly (Tim) Downer of Mound; his sons, Scott (Stephanie) Olson of New London, Jon (Ryan Hogan) Olson of New York, New York, Bryan (Jen) Olson of Nicollet; his grandchildren, Meghan McKenzie, Nicholas McKenzie, Tanner Olson, Kinley Olson, Cassandra Mueller, Sarah Downer, Zander Downer, Matthew Downer, Tayden Olson, Wesley Olson, Addilyn Olson; his great-granddaughter, Ellary McKenzie; his sisters, Janet (Tom) Schuneman of Belle Plaine, Diane (John) Krohn of Nicollet, Jennifer Olson of Mankato; his brother, David Olson of New Ulm; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant daughter, Nina Olson; his infant sister, Karen Olson; and his nephew, Chad Olson.
Duane Arthur Olson was born on May 15, 1953, in New Ulm to Maynard and Carol (Woods) Olson. He grew up in Brighton Township where he was both baptized and confirmed at Swan Lake Lutheran Church and was a 1971 graduate of New Ulm High School. Duane was united in marriage to Gwen Renner in September of 1977. This union blessed the couple with four children whom together they raised in and around New Ulm. The couple later divorced. Duane started his career as a farmer, but later went to work at Sanborn Manufacturing which later became Coleman Manufacturing. Duane also worked as a welder for some time at Hewitt Docks and Lifts in Nicollet before going back to work at Sanborn in Springfield. He eventually retired in 2017, but stayed working as a farmer helping out area local farmers. Besides his work, there were a variety of hobbies and activities he enjoyed in life. Duane was an avid outdoorsman his entire life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spending time with his beloved dogs. Duane always enjoyed a working and participating in local tractor pulls. He volunteered for many years at the Nicollet County Fair helping at the pulls. He was also an active member of his church at Swan Lake Lutheran. Duane was the type of man who was always there for anyone in need. He always had time for his family, and was always present at their life events. He especially loved getting to see his children and grandchildren grow. Duane will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him, but countless good memories will stay in the hearts and minds of all who knew him best. Blessed be his memory.
